I vividly recall at least two pages of various sets in the Sears Xmas Catalogue (and all made by that pride of CT, the Gilbert Company of Erector Set fame). Lord knows how many toxic & volatile chemicals we were all exposed to. One set devoted to radioactivity even came with a Geiger counter (don't recall if there was anything radioactive included, though) !
